Audi introduces a new generation of its premium mid-size model. The new Audi A5 continues with the unconventional combination of a longitudinally mounted engine and front-wheel (or all-wheel) drive, maintaining design and philosophy from its predecessor. The most significant change is the renaming of all mid-size Audis to A5. This naming, previously reserved for stylish models (two-door coupe, convertible, and four-door coupe Sportback), is now also used for the sedan and wagon. The A4 designation will be used for the upcoming, purely electric equivalent. Another major innovation is the premiere of the new combustion platform PPC, replacing the old MLB platform. The new platform offers wider possibilities for hybridization. The new A5 will initially offer purely combustion engines, including diesel engines with hybridization. The transmissions will be exclusively automatic dual-clutch, with the option of quattro all-wheel drive for more powerful engines. The design maintains continuity with older models but also draws inspiration from the A6 e-tron sedan concept. The interior space has significantly increased, with the sedan gaining 67 mm in length and 16 mm in width. The wheelbase has also increased by 68 mm. The powertrain includes improved direct-injection 2.0 EA888 four-cylinder engines with outputs of 150 or 204 hp. The diesel version will be a 2.0 TDI evo with mild-hybrid technology. The S5 model will feature a petrol V6 engine with a mild-hybrid system. The innovative mild-hybrid MHEV Plus system combines technical simplicity and low cost with the performance of a traditional hybrid. Deliveries of the new Audi A5 will begin in November 2024, with production taking place at the Audi Neckarsulm plant.
